We need you to make an input to the TSA and your elected representatives

CAF's Position Against the TSA Propsed Rule Making For Large Aircraft Over 12,500 lbs

Bob Stenevik, Vice President of Safety, Maintenance and Operations for the CAF, testified at the TSA Public Hearing on the Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) on the Large Aircraft Security Program (LASP) for aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight greater than 12,500 Lbs. The hearing was held Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009.

At the hearing, Bob addressed the impact of the proposed rules on a non-profit, all volunteer organization. Should the rules be adopted the CAF will certainly be hit in the pocket book, as will everyone else.  The bigger issue is the time and training required to administer the program. This will be significant for volunteers, even if the program is streamlined. Some units may not be able to comply.  There are other issues, like the vetting of passengers against the no-fly list, which may be just as problematic.  Once more details about specific programs and processes are available, the CAF will be able to argue specific difficulties expected in the implementation.

We submitted our formal position to the TSA on 14 January, 2009.

We need all of you to send your input on this proposal, most importantly to your elected representatives: You can get their contact information at: http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/

  2. To provide museum buildings for permanent protection and display of these aircraft as a tribute to the thousands of men and women who built, serviced and flew them.
  3. To perpetuate in the memory and hearts of all Americans the spirit in which these great planes were flown for the defense of our nation.
  4. To establish an organization having the dedication, enthusiasm and esprit de corps necessary to operate, maintain and preserve these aircraft as symbols of our American military aviation heritage.
